ANDREW GOOI

For me, it began simply with realizing that I needed to make a little film about my grandmother – who makes my absolute favorite dishes. I wanted to document her cooking and her story in order to have this tangible memory of her. It was about creating a time capsule of memories and emotions through film. And since that very film, I’ve continued to capture many stories focused on lost traditions for preservation. The storytelling is important to me, I value that above all else in every film or project I’m on – the intimacy is the reason why I go to most of my shoots solo, and be able to walk away with a story that the subjects will treasure. The raw emotion is what I continue to look for – I believe that to be valuable in any human story – something I will always have my eye on.
